Sydney’s Street Style
When I first met her, I was impressed by her statement heels and her fabulous red lip color. From wearing a simple classy outfit, she certainly made it stand out with not just her ability but her expertise in making that outfit a one of a kind. Not only was her outfit one of a kind, but so was she. She definitely blew me away with the extensive amount of love and commitment she put into her style, her fashion sense and glamourous personality. This woman goes above and beyond everyday fashion and dresses as if she is always walking the runway.

How would you describe your style?
I would describe my personal style as chic, classic, and feminine. As I became more and more obsessed with fashion it was hard to discover what my personal style was. Than I realized what I truly loved to wear and what I think looks the best on me. Wearing black, creams, white, or ivories are my favorite colors to wear. I tend to add pops of orange or other vibrant hues to my wardrobe as well. I love feeling girly and dressed up every time I leave my house. I believe if you look great, you feel great.
What are your favorite current trends?
I am loving a few of the current trends for this upcoming spring/summer season. Lace is going to be my favorite. It describes my personal style to a T. The feminine look is just so fresh and a trend that always has and will always be loved. I recently bought a cutout, white wallet that resembles a lacy pattern, I can not wait to starting using it once the weather is warm. Another trend I am loving is stripes. This is a trend that will never go out of style. Stripes are so classic thats why I love them. A striped sundress or a pair of striped flats are what I am looking forward to wearing. Pantone’s color of the year, emerald, is also a trend I look forward to incorporate into my wardrobe and especially accessories.
What is your favorite piece in your wardrobe this season?
I have two favorite pieces that I am in love with this past fall/winter season. My Lola camel colored, trench style winter coat is a staple for the chilly Grand Rapids weather. The color is great and compliments anything I wear. I also love the fit, the length is very flattering. A cheetah or burberry scarf really pulls the look together! My second favorite piece are my Aldo black quilted flats. I love these shoes. They are extremely comfortable when running around downtown or campus. The gold spikes on the toe make them fun and super trendy!
How do you feel about the fashion scene in GR? Where do you think it’s going?
I believe the fashion scene in Grand Rapids is constantly growing. If you search hard enough, or know the right people you can always find a fashion event going on. GRCC’s fashion merchandising program holds an annual charity fashion show that benefits The Salvation Army on Division Street downtown. Boutiques like Sydney’s, Gina’s, and Urban Exchange are great places to find unique pieces to enhance one’s wardrobe. Events and stores like these are the shining hope for the fashion industry in Grand Rapids. It will be exciting to see how the fashion scene will grow over the next few years.
